I am delighted to send these greetings to all members of ICPPB for celebrating the completion of 3 years of activities on infection control in health care settings. By showing your interest in infection control, you have already expressed your commitment to this great cause. I would like to call the ICPPB a movement, which is not expected to achieve its goals in one day but will do so over a period. It is my great pleasure to be part of this important movement.
A technologically advanced country like the USA, there are about a hundred thousand deaths every year from hospital acquired infections. Although there is no data generated from Bangladesh, the morbidity and mortality related to hospital acquired infections is certainly a big problem. In last few years, there was several sad news of death of our colleagues in Bangladesh from hepatitis C related diseases. I do not have to tell you how the infection was acquired. Thus working on hospital infection control not only will protect our patients, will protect us as well.
The members of the ICPPB committee have been doing a great job in spreading the message. It is time to make Infection Control activities mandatory by the Government of Bangladesh to set the momentum. I am urging all of you to get involved and do the best to bring the change.
